    Supported Operating Systems

    Windows Vista (32bit or 64bit)

    Windows 7 (32bit or 64bit)

    .NET Framework Version

    .NET Framework 4.0 or later is required in order to install and use Document! X and HelpStudio. The .NET framework is downloaded and installed automatically by the Document! X and HelpStudio setup if it is not already installed.

    Internet Explorer Version

    Internet Explorer 8 or higher is required to install and use Document! X and HelpStudio.

    Help Compilers

    In order to produce compiled help file output you will need a help compiler. There are different help compiler requirements for the different compiled outputs that Document! X and HelpStudio can produce:

    Html Help 1.x

    Html Help 1.x is the CHM compiled help file format included with Windows. For HTML Help 1.x, the HTML Help compiler is included in the free Microsoft HTML Help workshop. Microsoft HTML Help Workshop can be downloaded from the link on this web page:

    Help 2.x

    Help 2.x is a help format specific to Microsoft Visual Studio 2002-2008. You would only compile to this format if you are creating help materials for integration with Visual Studio 2002-2008. The Help 2.x compiler components are included in the Visual Studio SDK. A link to the Microsoft download page for the various versions of the Visual Studio SDK can be found at :

    Microsoft Help Viewer

    Microsoft Help Viewer is the help format used by Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019. You would only compile to this format if you are creating help materials for integration with Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019. Microsoft Help Viewer is a Zip based container format so no specific compiler is required. In order to view Microsoft Help Viewer outputs that you build with Document! X and HelpStudio you will need Visual Studio 2015, 2017 or 2019 installed.
