We're excited to announce the immediate beta availability of a brand new Innovasys product, Luminitix. Read on to learn more and to find information on how you can download the beta and get a free license.

What is Luminitix?

When we embarked on the redevelopment of Document! X and HelpStudio in .NET back in 2009, we decided that in many areas we were missing concrete information on how our products were being used. Basic facts such as which Operating Systems were being used, how many CPU cores and how much memory were available, but also more complex usage questions such as what size projects were being built and which documentation type was used most. So the idea for Luminitix was born; an application analytics platform that would provide us with invaluable insight into how our customers used our software.

Our first thought was to source an existing solution. Even in 2009 there were some products available which could meet some of our requirements, but they were relatively basic solutions and they had 2 important drawbacks; they were hosted by a third party and were limited in the kind of usage information that could be tracked. We needed a solution that we had privacy control over (which ruled out a third party having ownership of our analytics data), and we wanted to be able analyze complex usage patterns in a way that was easy to integrate in our code. The application analytics market today is still pretty similar; expensive hosted only solutions, usage caps and tariffs, pre-defined sets of analytics queries and very limited customization.

Once we had completed our own implementation of the initial internal version of Luminitix and started seeing the Analytics data coming in, the value of that information become crystal clear. We were able to focus our development efforts, testing resources and future plans based on facts, not guess work. We were able to identify precisely the platforms and hardware on which our customers were running our products and we could measure real world profiling metrics (startup times, build times etc.) to enhance our quality control over time as we released new versions. We were also able to identify areas of our applications that were not being discovered by users and make changes to the application and our support resources accordingly.

Having discovered the huge value of good quality Application Analytics for ourselves, we decided to productionize our internal solution into something that could be sold as a turnkey product and this beta release of Luminitix is the end result of that effort.

Why would I use Luminitix?

We believe that Luminitix is different from other Application Analytics solutions for 3 key reasons:  

1. It is affordable; no usage tariffs, no data caps and you have the flexibility to install Luminitix on your own hardware or use a cloud hosting provider such as Amazon Web Services.
2. Luminitix is powerful; In addition to a suite of Questions that come pre-defined you have complete flexibility to design your own Questions and Dashboards targeted at the specific usage information you want to track in your application.
3. Luminitix is a turn-key solution; Get up and running quickly with a setup to run on your chosen server and a simple to implement Client SDK (which will be provided in source and binary form in the final release).

How can I try Luminitix?

Luminitix is available as a free download from http://www.luminitix.com and is completely free to use during the beta period. The most active beta users will receive a completely free perpetual license, including support, when Luminitix is released.

You can use your existing Innovasys web site login details to Sign In to the Luminitix site and download the free beta license. The beta version is fully functional and can be used with your internal or production applications subject to the terms of the Luminitix license agreement which is displayed during the Luminitix Server or Luminitix Client SDK setup.

We have created a set of movies and online help materials to assist you with getting up and running quickly and we will be providing full support during the beta, including direct email support and through the forums available on the Luminitix http://www.luminitix.com web site.

We are absolutely committed to providing you with top quality support if you are able to participate in the beta and we will provide whatever help you need in order to implement Luminitix support for your application(s). That includes providing rapid (24hr) hotfix updates where practical should you encounter any issues.

The most active beta users will receive a completely free perpetual license, including support, when Luminitix is released.
