I created a custom template, and used it in my help project. Yet, when you move the project to the second machine, it cannot find the custom emplate.

Where is it stored and configured?

How can I migrate my project with its template, to another machine ?

You can move custom templates between machines by copying it's folder, which can be found here:

Document! X 2008:

XP: \documents and settings\all users\application data\innovasys\documentx5\templates\
Vista \ Windows 7: \programdata\innovasys\documentx5\templates\ 

Document! X 2010 / 2011:

XP: \documents and settings\all users\application data\innovasys\documentx2010\templates\<documentationtype>\
Vista \ Windows 7: \programdata\innovasys\documentx2010\templates\<documentationtype>\

I'm had the same question...but the path you give for Windows 7 isn't correct... \Program Files (x86)\Innovasys\DocumentX2011\??? There is no \templates folder here. What you do see are three folders: bin, configuration, innovahxreg. So I dug down into \configuration and found a \templates folder. I assumed that my custom Page Layout and/or custom topic templates would have been in the \topics subfolder, but they're not there. Only the default page layouts are there (standard.html, No Headers.html, etc.). I'd love to know and better understand where they are. Thanks for your efforts!

The path given was actually \programdata - that path is hidden in windows by default but if you type it directly in the windows explorer address bar and press enter that will take you to the directory.

There is a directory below that for each template type you have created a custom template for (e.g. "topics" for topic templates, "dx.net" for .NET templates etc.). Each template type directory contains the templates of that type you have created.

It is very unfortunate that: 1) the UI doesn't let jump to this path, I lost 20minutes until I found the current thread! 2) a custom template cannot be in a custom directory, to store everything related to a project, into a single directory
